LGBTQIA+ Support
Inclusive Counseling
Safe Space
Counseling that offers a safe space that is inclusive and welcoming of everyone. Whether seeking counseling for general issues, such trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, or stress, you know you will receive counseling that is respectful. No one pushing their religious beliefs on you, dead naming you, using the wrong pronouns, or giving you judgmental looks even though their Psychology Today said they were "LGBT friendly." Counseling services for specific LGBTQIA+ issues, include navigating coming out, coping with involuntary outing, relationships, social rejection, minority stress, social stigma, internalized stigma, discrimination, gender dysphoria, etc.
Identity & Sexuality
Exploration Sessions
In a world where cisgender and heterosexuality are the presumed norms, many people just accepted this for themselves until something or someone comes along that causes doubts in these identities. Whether you are beginning to have doubts, are unsure what your gender identity or sexuality is, want to know more from a reliable source, want to talk it out with a non-judgmental person, recently discovered a new identity/sexuality, or anywhere in between, I can help empower you on this wonderful aspect of self-discovery. We can also explore what you want your next steps to be. Whether you want to socially transition, need recommendations on a bra that will give the appearance of breasts without surgery so you can wear it at home while dancing in the mirror, or want resources for support groups I can help.
Documentation Aid
Medical Necessity Requirements
Unfortunately, we live in a world that makes transgender individuals jump through hoops to obtain medical care. I can provide the documentation, such as a Support Letter or Surgical Readiness Letter and diagnosis, to show medical necessity (assuming the information is accurate and you attend the necessary sessions) required for gender-affirming medical care (i.e. "top surgery").
Note: at this time this service can only be provided for adults 18 years and older due to current laws.
Family & Couples
Supporting Who Supports You
Relationship and couples counseling, even when only one partner identifies as LGBTQIA+, is offered. Specific issues include managing discrimination, handling desire discrepancies, supporting a partner who comes out during a pre-existing relationship, feeling invisible as a hetero-appearing couple, etc. I am also kink-positive/affirming and accepting of all relationship dynamics (non-monogamy, ENM, CNM, polyamory, open relationships, etc.).
Family therapy is offered, specifically to assist other family members in adapting to one member's identity (how to correct themselves if they use the wrong name/pronouns, proper terms, etc.), assist/mediate in the coming out process, improve communication, educate everyone at once, work through emotions, conflict resolution, etc.
